Advantages and Disadvantages of Living in Central London and Commuting

If you are working in London should you live in the City itself, or live further outside commuting to and from work every day? Much of the decision comes down to personal preference, but this article covers some of the advantages and disadvantages of both.

Advantages of Living in Central London

If you are working in central London then living in the City will mean a shorter journey to work. You might even be able to walk to work, something that is a lot easier and quicker than commuting by public transport or car.

In London everything is on your door step and there is lots to do. Whatever you need, it is not far away. Whether it is music venues, the theatre or sports events you are interested in, there is always something happening close by. These are easy to get to and do not need prior planning as it might if you weren't living in the city. If eating out there are also lots of options.

Public transport is cheaper and more convenient that in other parts of the country, meaning less need for a car and money savings. Because everything is nearby you don't have to travel as far even when you are using public transport. A single journey on the underground can be as little as £1.50 with an Oyster card; the equivalent journey by bus outside of the city is likely to be significantly more. Over time this can make a big difference.

Disadvantages of Living in Central London

The main reason some working in central London don't choose to live there is the cost. It is one of the most expensive cities in the world, with house price, if renting or buying, having increased rapidly over time. This can mean having to live in an area you would otherwise choose not to. Council tax and other housing related costs can also be higher than outside of the City.

With so many people living and visiting London there is always a lot of people around. This can lead to a feeling of claustrophobia, with overcrowding and noise. It can be difficult to get away from the hustle and bustle of the City. There are also higher levels of pollution and crime.

Advantages of Commuting

With one of the main disadvantages of living in the City being the cost of housing, a major advantage of living outside can be savings in this area. If living in the suburbs of London prices are hardly cheap, but compared with central London they can be significantly less. The prices of other things, such as eating out, are also cheaper.

The suburbs are typically quieter than the City. To many people, living in a leafy suburb such as Wimbledon or Richmond is more pleasant than the noise of central London.

Depending on where you live, it can be easy to get into the countryside, something that can take several hours from central London. So if you fancy it, you can make a spur of the moment decision to go into the countryside without taking a whole day out.

Disadvantages of Commuting

A major disadvantage is the commute itself, especially if living a significant distance away from where you work. The longer it takes to get to and from work the less free time you will have. This can be tiring and expensive.

Another downside of living outside of the City is that there is comparably less to do. The options of central London are not there.

The City or Outside?

We all have different ideas of the perfect lifestyle. Some prefer the busyness of the City where there is always something happening, while others prefer the relative tranquility of living further afield.

In terms of cost, living in London is generally more expensive than living outside the City. However, some areas close to London can be very expensive too, while the costs of commuting to and from work also need to be considered.

Egg Preservation

How are your eggs? Are they fresh? Have you checked the expiration date on the egg carton lately? In days gone by, eggs were said to be kept absolutely fresh for an unknown amount of time by means of a gaseous solution was discovered in France. The method was simple, place 1,000 eggs in an autoclave, what we know as a pressurized tank, withdraw all the air out of the autoclave. Once the air is drawn out, the eggs begin to release the gas within the shells. This too is drawn out of the autoclave. Once all the air and gas from the egg shells have been drawn out, carbonic acid and nitrogen is then introduced to the eggs inside the autoclave. These gases in liquid form kills any and all germs of decay, remarkably preserving 1,000 eggs at a time. The flavor of the eggs are said to remain in tact.

Before the use of refrigerators the average homeowner preserved their eggs in jars. It was said the best time to preserve eggs was between July and September. One way they preserved eggs was by adding lime and salt to a gallon of boiling water. After the solutions thickens and is cooled, the solution's top layer was then poured over eggs and then placed in a jar. Another manner of preserving was packing them in a jar with layers of salt between the large end of the egg downward, with a thick layer of salt at the top. I imagine salt was used to keep moisture out. Yet another method was placing a layer of butter or lard over the entire eggshell and packing them in bran or sawdust. This was an interesting method, seeing they smothered the eggs leaving no room for oxygen. Lastly, another form used to preserve eggs of that era was boiling them for half a minute. The last method of preserving eggs would limit the use of the egg or lessen the quality of a "scrambled egg."

Today, eggs have expiration dates. Those who remember when egg cartons did not have an expiration date, ignore the dated cartons. They are convinced that today's refrigerators are pretty good at preserving eggs. However, in recent years, reports of bad bacteria in eggs that sat for an undetermined amount of time led to heeding the expiration dated cartons. So unless you have the gadget discovered in France that preserves eggs indefinitely, sticking to expiration dates on egg cartons is the safest bet.

Our Journey in the Fields of Broken Dreams

Our journey in the fields of broken dreams is getting more complicated. It is 1937 all over again except our industrial base is somewhere else in the world.

President Obama sent out a four page letter asking for money for the Democratic National Committee. I no longer vote for either major party because there really is only one party and it should be called the Globalist Free traders Party. The elder Pres. Bush put the free trade programstogether while announcing the New World Order. Pres. Clinton followed and has his Democrat controlled congress pass the programs. Pres Bush, the son, came and activated more while putting on his "shock and awe" wars that took American eyes off of what he was doing behind the scenes with the globalist free traders and money changers. Pres. Obama followed the Pres Bush and bailed out the money changers and Wall Street interests that caused the problems and put them back in charge of the economic mess due to free trade. He attends international money leaders meetings and uses the phrase the New World Order regarding the global money crisis.

It is 1937 all over again, with the stimulus packages and bail outs failing back then but there is one big difference in the mix. There is no industrial base to trigger like President Roosevelt did when he launched the Lend Lease program. He said that he would not let the lack of dollars stand in his way. Then World War 2 came and created the most awesome industrial might in history. Fifty years after the fact, the U.S. loses World War 2 by shredding its industrial power into pieces. It is like shredding paper. It is virtually impossible to put it together again. And with the U.S. industrial might gone, all comparable statistics and economic data has to questioned. America is now like Humpty Dumpty. Humpty Dumpty fell off the Wall and all the Kings men couldn't put Humpty Dumpty back together again! Yet, our leaders and the media keep using all the old language and comparisons in debating how to restore our economy. Not much can be compared or put into the frame of statistics because our industrial base is gone. The trillions of dollars pumped into the economy will not work because there is no longer any real economy left. Our economies based on making money on money instead of making things is burning out. All the funny money and manipulations by the Federal Reserve Bank will not work and just add more fuel to the fire. Trying to fix things with the usual system of raising taxes and cutting budgets is like trying to put a forest fire out with a bucket of water.

Not once did President Obama mention free trade in the letter he sent out asking for money. He ignores the fact that free trade is the major cause of our economic crisis since the value of workers and labor has been deflated to a point where it can no longer support the needs of our society. The value of workers and labor acted as a real money standard and now that value is gone too. The money products created through it are now just a mirage and a ponzi scheme future generations will have to deal with. U.S. is now a debtor nation but the debts being closely connected to the free trade money products may prove to be worthless. If this is true, China is not going to be very happy with this deal down the road a few years from now.

The next economic time bomb is ticking and still there are few leaders in the world who want to admit it.

Now the liberals have mixed big government with big money. The identity of the private sector is now blurred with the government brokers and dealers involved. All bets are off in any comparisons with the past. It is not Socialism but some kind of new "ism" that should have been branded as Globalism by now. Democrat governors are trying to suck out the last bit of taxes from rocks. Conservative governors with several coming from the money changer ranks are trying to cut and cut programs and benefits. No austerity program can match the magnitude of the trillions of dollars that kidnapped future generations. It is a now way out situation. Old political ways and slogans must fade away as people of good will need to start all over again from the bottom up. Doing it from the top down will not work.
